ESL1 Science

Prerequisite: placement test given either by the VSB or the ESL Department at Point Grey indicating that the student’s ability is that of a beginner.

The course will provide the beginning framework for scientific literacy. In addition to becoming familiar with safety procedures for the science classroom, students will examine basic concepts, principles, laws and theories through practical, hands-on examples using the Scientific method in a laboratory setting. Students will also be provided with opportunities to actively gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes that provide the basis for sound and ethical problem solving and decision making. Selected units from the curriculum of Science 8 and 9 will be adapted to suit the beginners/lower intermediate language proficiency levels of the ESL students.
