At the Graduation Ceremonies in June, a variety of awards are presented to Grade 12 students in recognition of outstanding achievement in all areas of school life: athletics, citizenship, fine arts, leadership, scholarship, service, and exceptional performance. A number of these awards are donated and presented by community groups and businesses.  Most of these awards are based on students' performance in the last two years of school.
   
ADONIRAM MASONIC AWARD AND CERTIFICATE - The Adoniram Masonic Award and Certificate are presented annually by Dunbar Lodge No. 118, Grand Lodge of British Columbia and Yukon to a student who, in the opinion of his or her peers and teachers, best exemplifies the qualities of leadership, high moral standards, charity, and tolerance.  The award  is named after Adoniram Lodge No. 118.  Adoniram was the chief engineer during the construction of Solomon’s Temple three thousand years ago.  He was known as the perfect builder - a master craftsman whose personal qualities provided the leadership for the thirty thousand craftsmen who built the Temple.  Many of the qualities are worthy of emulation today and serve as a model for our graduates who, as positive contributing citizens, will form the back bone of our country.

ART NORDMAN SCHOLARSHIP AND ACADEMIC MEDAL - The Art Nordman Scholarship is named after Point Grey's first senior physics teacher.  It was created and funded by Point Grey Alumni to honour the second highest ranking academic student.

ARTONA ART BURSARY - The Artona Art Bursary is presented by Artona to the top visual arts student.  The recipient plans to attend a post secondary institution to study art.

BRENNA INNES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This award is presented in memory of Brenna Innes a former Point Grey student (1999-2004).  The award honors a student who has demonstrated strong athletic abilities, extensive participation on school teams, excellent scholarship, and an overall high level of citizenship.
               

CANADA MILLENNIUM LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP - The recipient of this scholarship, provided by the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation has been selected on the basis of academic achievement, community  service, leadership and interest in innovation.

CANADA MILLENNIUM PROVINCIAL SCHOLARSHIP - The recipient of this scholarship, provided by the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation has been selected on the basis of academic achievement, community service, leadership and interest in innovation.  This award is renewable up to three times.

DARREN PAUL JACOBSON MEMORIAL BURSARY AND PLAQUE  - Darren Paul Jacobson was a student at Point Grey, and a dedicated and talented saxophone player.  He played lead alto saxophone in the school's Jazz Band and during the few months that he attended Point Grey, he made many friends.  Darren also enjoyed boating and fishing, and was only fourteen when he used his paper route money to buy his first motor boat.  Two years later, at sixteen, he was the passenger in a car and was killed in an accident, the victim of dangerous driving.  This music award is presented in his memory.

DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ASSOCIATION AWARD - The Developmental Disabilities Association has established this award to honour the service of Ronda Karliner to the special needs community of Vancouver and Richmond.  This award is presented to a student in the special education program who has demonstrated courage to overcome obstacles and has shown strength of character through his/her high school years.

EMILY CARR INSTITUTE VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP - The Emily Carr Institute Visual Arts Scholarship is provided by the Emily Carr Institute to recognize an outstanding visual arts student.
           
GREYHOUND ATHLETIC PLAQUE AND BURSARY - This Greyhound Athletic Award is an “inspiration” award given to the student in the graduating class who best demonstrates athletic excellence, leadership, and citizenship.
               
JOHN PLOMMER MINI  SCHOOL AWARD AND PLAQUE  - John Plommer was the head teacher of the Mini School from 1981 to 1986.  The parents of the Mini School raised money to fund a scholarship in John’s name to thank him for his contributions to the Mini School.  The John Plommer award is presented to a student who has shown substantial growth and development as a scholar and a citizen.   The recipient has been on the Honour Roll in grades 11 and 12 and is considered to be a 'true scholar' with a love of learning.  The recipient has had a positive influence on the school and has made substantial contributions to the life of the Mini School.

JOSH PLATZER MEMORIAL AWARD (1)  - This award is in memory of Josh Platzer, a former Point Grey student.  It is presented by Jude Platzer, his mother, and director of the Josh Platzer Society for Teen Suicide Prevention and Awareness.  The recipient will have demonstrated personal courage in the face of adversity and life challenges.

JOSH PLATZER MEMORIAL AWARD (2) - This award is donated by the Josh Platzer Memorial Fund in memory of Josh Platzer, a former Point Grey student.  The award is given to a student who has been noted for a gentleness of spirit and caring and compassion for others in the school community.  It is presented by Jude Platzer, mother of Josh, and director of the Josh Platzer Society for Teen Suicide Prevention and Awareness.

KARL GUNG BURSARY  - This award is provided by the Marpole Lions Club to a student who will be attending a post secondary institution.  The recipient must have exhibited good scholarship in grades 11 and 12, provided service to the school and/or community, and must have been a good citizen of Point Grey.

KERRISDALE LUMBER AWARD—This award is provided by Kerrisdale Lumber to assist a student who has taken technical studies courses in his or her senior years at Point Grey and who plans to attend a post-secondary institution.   Preference is given to a student who has provided service to the school or to the technical studies department.
LAURA WRIGHT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AND PLAQUE - Laura Wright, a counselor at Point Grey from 1996-2004 recognized and affirmed all the varied abilities of her students.  She believed, through co-operation and encouragement, that we can solve problems and live happier lives.  The Laura Wright  Memorial Scholarship and Plaque are presented to a student who works to encourage and support others, thereby making the school a better place.

MARPOLE LIONS CLUB BURSARY - This award is provided by the Marpole Lions Club to a student who will be attending a post secondary institution.  The recipient must have exhibited good scholarship in grades 11 and 12, provided service to the school and/or community, and must have been a good citizen of Point Grey.

MINI SCHOOL INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD AND PLAQUE  - The Mini School Individual Achievement Award, donated by the Lockitch family, is presented to a student in the Mini School who has shown a very high level of individual achievement in a non-academic area.

PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL SERVICE TROPHY AND SCHOLARSHIP  - The Point Grey Parent Advisory Council provides a scholarship to a graduating student who has exhibited outstanding service within the school community in his or her senior years at Point Grey.  The recipient must have achieved satisfactory scholarship and have been a good citizen of the school as perceived by both staff and students.

PETER ST. LOUIS SCHOLARSHIP, POINT GREY STAFF TROPHY AND
ACADEMIC MEDAL  - Peter St. Louis attended Point Grey from grades 8 to 11.  He was a bright,  popular student and athlete.   When he was killed in an automobile accident during the summer of 1976, the Wilkinson Steel Company contributed money towards a scholarship in Peter's name.  Every year, this scholarship is given to the top academic student of the graduating class.

PFAFF BURSARY  - This award is presented to an outstanding student in the Textiles 12 area of Home Economics.  Nominations for this award are made by the Point Grey Home Economics Department.
       

POINT GREY ACADEMIC MEDALS AND SCHOLARSHIPS  - The Point Grey Academic Medals and Scholarships are presented to the outstanding academic scholars of the graduating class.  Academic Scholarships are awarded to students based on both their grades 11 and 12 report card marks and honour roll status.   Students receiving academic medals are all  nominees for the Peter St. Louis Academic Scholarship and Trophy.

POINT GREY ATHLETIC TROPHY AND SCHOLARSHIP - This award is presented to an athlete in the graduating class who best  combines excellence and leadership in athletics with the spirit of sportsmanship.

POINT GREY CITIZENSHIP AWARD AND CERTIFICATE - The Point Grey Citizenship Award and Certificate are presented to a student who has been recognized by staff for the excellent example of citizenship and leadership he or she has shown at Point Grey.

POINT GREY COMMITMENT TO LEARNING AWARD - This award is funded by the Brenna Innes Memorial Scholarship fund.  It is presented to a deserving student who has demonstrated good citizenship and a commitment to lifelong learning.

POINT GREY FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS TROPHY AND SCHOLARSHIP
The Point Grey Fine and Performing Art Departments offers a scholarship to a graduating student who has exhibited outstanding achievement in any of the fine and performing arts at Point Grey.  The recipient must have demonstrated excellence in at least two different disciplines of fine and performing arts courses in his/her senior years.

POINT GREY HUMANITIES ACADEMIC AWARD
The Point Grey Humanities Academic Award is presented by the Pepsi Bottling Group. It is awarded to a student who has excelled in the academic humanities:  Social Studies and English.  The recipient has further demonstrated interest in this field of study by taking more than the required number of these courses in one or both areas.

POINT GREY MERIT GOLD PINS
Point Grey's first graduating class of 1966 presented a Merit Trophy as the highest award the school can bestow on any student.  To qualify, the student selected must have  demonstrated excellence in at least three of four areas: athletics, fine arts, scholarship, and service.  The students who have qualified to receive a Merit Gold Pin are all nominees for the Point Grey Merit Trophy  and Scholarship.

POINT GREY MERIT TROPHY AND SCHOLARSHIP
Point Grey’s first graduating class of 1966 presented a Merit Trophy as the highest award the school can bestow on any student.  To qualify, the student selected must have demonstrated excellence in at least three of four areas of school life:  athletics, fine arts, scholarship, and service.  The recipient must also have exhibited good citizenship qualities as perceived by both staff and student.

POINT GREY MULTICULTURAL AND HUMANITARIAN AWARD - This award is presented to a Grade 12 student who has provided service and leadership in multicultural and/or humanitarian issues.  Preference is given to a student who has participated and/or led school curricular and extra curricular activities which have promoted cross-cultural relations, understanding, and/or global awareness.

POINT GREY SILVER SERVICE PINS
Each graduating class has a few students who are responsible for a great deal of  work that enables the school to put on a wide variety of extra curricular  functions and activities.  Students receiving a silver service pin are all nominees for the Parent Advisory Council Service Trophy and Scholarship.

POINT GREY THEATRE COMPANY AWARD AND PLAQUE
The Point Grey Theatre Company Award is presented to a student who has shown evidence of outstanding achievement in the area of Drama, Acting, Musical Theatre, and/or Directing.  Preference is given to a student who plans to pursue post-secondary education in the areas of theatre and/or film studies.

PRINCIPAL'S AWARDS
The Principal's Award is a prize that has been designed to recognize those students who, through their individual efforts, have made Point Grey a better place for staff and students.  Although these students may not excel in any one particular area, their overall effort is exemplary and they have contributed to making Point Grey a better place for all to be. The winners in this category are deserving of recognition and should take pride in the contributions they have made to Point Grey.  They have made an  impression through their positive attitude, enthusiasm, or helpful nature.

RONALD AND ANGELA MARTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Ronald and Angela Martin Memorial Scholarship has been provided by the Martin family to acknowledge a student who exemplifies good citizenship, satisfactory scholarship and leadership among his or her peers.  The recipient has promoted awareness of environmental and/or global issues.

ROSEMARY MCTAVISH MEMORIAL FIELDHOCKEY PLAQUE & BURSARY
This award has been named in memory of Rosemary McTavish, a former counsellor and Physical Education teacher who began her teaching career at Point Grey.  During the eight years she was at Point Grey, Rosemary was an enthusiastic and popular fieldhockey teacher who coached extra curricular teams at various levels and who, through her personal interest and commitment, inspired and encouraged many female athletes to become involved in the sport and to continue their participation into their adult years.

ROTARY CLUB OF VANCOUVER ARBUTUS SCHOLARSHIP - The Arbutus Rotary Club offers a scholarship to a graduating student who has demonstrated good scholastic achievement and involvement in school and community activities.  Three students are nominated by the school and the recipient is then selected by members of the Rotary Club.

SCOTT PORTER MEMORIAL BURSARY AND PLAQUE  -  The Scott Porter Memorial Bursary is a very special award for Point Grey.  Scott Porter, a student at Point Grey Secondary School from 1977 - 1980, was afflicted from birth with Hunter's Syndrome.  Throughout his 15 years, Scott fought a valiant battle against his handicap.  Scott's classmates were always most impressed by his eagerness to learn, his willingness to participate in sports, and his desire to join with his peers in all facets of school life.  This bursary was  established in Scott Porter's name to recognize a student who has shown great determination in meeting a challenge and maximizing his or her strengths.

stywte:n ABORIGINAL AWARD AND PLAQUE - The stywte:n Aboriginal Award was established by the Point Grey Parent Advisory Council in 2005 to recognize the contribution of a graduating Point Grey student to the strengthening and advancement of aboriginal culture and learning. The plaque features a reproduction of “The Gift” by Kelly Cannell, a Musqueum artist and Point Grey graduate.  The imagery of “The Gift” represents the passing of knowledge from teacher to student.

VANCOUVER ASSOCIATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS' SCHOLARSHIP -
The VASSA Scholarship is awarded to a student in the graduating class who has provided leadership, demonstrated academic excellence, and plans to pursue further education at a post-secondary institution.

VANCOUVER QUADRA CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF CANADA LEADERSHIP AWARD 
This award has been donated by the Vancouver Quadra Conservative Party of Canada to acknowledge a graduating  student who has demonstrated strong and effective leadership in his or her community through extra-curricular activities, initiative and a desire to contribute meaningfully to the community.

VANCOUVER SCHOOL BOARD INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AWARD - This award is presented to the top academic International student in the district.

VANCOUVER SECONDARY TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION BURSARY  - The VSTA bursary is presented to a student who has exhibited good scholarship, citizenship, and service to the school or community.  Preference is given to a student who has shown an interest in entering the teaching profession.
