Honour Roll Criteria

At Point Grey, there are two honour rolls each year:  first term and second term.

There are two levels of honour roll at each grade level:

  • Honour Roll
  • Principal’s List

HONOUR ROLL CRITERIA

To receive Honour Roll recognition, a student must attain an average percentage of at least 80% in all qualifying subjects.  A percentage of less than 60% in any subject means elimination from the Honour Roll.  To receive the Principal’s List distinction, a student must attain an average percentage of 90% or greater.   C-, I, or F in any subject means elimination from the Honour Roll.

Students must take at least six qualifying courses. (Five courses or less does NOT qualify.)

Non-qualifying courses include Business Administration Assistant 12, Community Service 11 & 12, Distance Education (correspondence) courses, Vancouver Learning Network (VLN) and other ONLINE Schools, Grad Transitions, and ungraded courses.

HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR HONOUR ROLL STANDING

Total your percentages and divide by the number of subjects.  If your average is 80% or higher, you should be on the Honour Roll List.  If your average is 90% or higher, you should be on the Principal’s List.

For example:

Step 1: Calculate your total percentage points as follows:

Step 2: Divide the percentage points by the number of subjects.

663 divided by 8 subjects = 82.875

Step 3:  This is your AVERAGE (82.875).  Check to see if you are in the honour roll range or in the principal’s list range:

  • Honour Roll = 80-89%
  • Principal’s List = 90-100%

HONOUR ROLL CERTIFICATES OF RECOGNITION

Students who were on both first and second term honour rolls will receive a certificate of distinction at the annual awards ceremony in June.  Students who were on both first and second term Principal`s Lists will receive a special certificate of distinction with a Principal's List Gold Seal.
